A few
years ago, I began designing and creating one of a kind handmade jewelry pieces: earrings, necklaces and bracelets. My
inspiration comes from the earth, sky, and ocean primarily in shades of greens, browns and blues. As in nature, I incorporate
some sparkle, like a raindrop reflecting the light on a leaf after a brief shower.
I start the designing process by thinking of a place I have been or something I have seen, drawing
on the colors that I noticed. I then select the materials that express the concept in my mind.
To bring my inspiration to “life,” I enjoy working primarily with natural
materials, using semi-precious stones, freshwater pearls and clay beads that I make by hand. I often incorporate glass or
crystal beads, as well. Antiqued copper or brass findings work well with the colors and shades of materials.
“Recycling” or “reclaiming” beads and findings is also a valuable resource that I draw upon.
In April 2010, I became a juried artist for the Prairie Art Alliance in Springfield,
Illinois.
